Starting a photography business is as exciting as it is scary. When you first enter, you quickly realize that you need to find something that makes you stand out from the rest. Aside from my business name, logo, and brand appearance, what can I do that will set me apart from the crowd?
For me, the biggest thing was establishing a consistent look through my images. I wanted people to be able to see a photo and automatically know it was mine because it screamed "Glitz & Glory's style". Before I could do that, I had to first determine what my style even was.
At the time, Instagram just came out and everyone was having a great time applying vintage filters and frames to their pictures. While it was a cool trend, that's exactly what it was....a trend!
I realized in that moment that I wanted to create timeless portraiture - true to color - true to how things actually were at the time of the photo. No filters, no overlays. Just clean, organic imagery.
Don't get me wrong, I love the recent trends that have emerged, they are all gorgeous. And while it is so tempting to follow along with the moody warm tones, I know there will come a day when someone will say "that look was so popular back in the late 2010's", and that is the opposite of what I want.
I want you to be able to look at your child's photo 10 years from now, and solely know the age of that picture based off of how much your child has grown, and not because my style of editing put a time stamp on it.
