I used to think photographs were for remembering. Now I know they're for holding onto the moments we never realized we'd miss.

Life has a funny way of changing without asking for permission.

See, I lost my first husband at the young age of 35. At the time of his passing, I begged everyone to send me any photos or videos that had with him in it. I didn't care if it was just him in the background. Suddenly, I wanted more than just a perfect portrait. I wanted any little photo that showed his mannerisms, characteristics, and personality. The way he would stand with one hand in his pocket. The dimple that would appear on his cheek when he made a certain face. How he would tilt forward when he was truly laughing big. These things are the things I never want to forget. these are the things I will always miss.

Now, with a newborn and two teens, I know just how fast time goes by.

One day you're rocking a newborn to sleep, wishing they'd stay little forever. The next, they're taller than you.

One day you're celebrating an anniversary. The next, you're wishing you had just one more photo together.

The truth is, none of us knows which moments will become the ones we treasure most. That's why I believe family photographs are about so much more than smiling at a camera. They're about preserving the ordinary.

The way your toddler reaches for your hand. The giggle that only comes out when Dad tells the same silly joke. The tiny fingers wrapped around yours. The look your partner gives you when no one else is watching.

These are the moments that become priceless. Not because they're perfect, but because they're real.

As a photographer, I could spend our entire session making sure everyone is standing perfectly still, looking at the camera with flawless smiles. But that's not what you'll miss someday.

You'll miss the way your daughter tucked her face into your shoulder. You'll miss your son's crooked smile. You'll miss how impossibly small they felt in your arms.

Those are the moments I chase.

Because one day, your photographs won't just remind you what everyone looked like. They'll remind you how it all felt.

I know life can change in an instant. I know that joy and heartbreak can exist at the same time. I know families grow in unexpected ways, and love has a remarkable way of finding us again. Those experiences have changed the way I photograph every family who steps in front of my camera. They've taught me not to wait for everything to be perfect.

Not to postpone family photos until you've lost the weight. Or until the house is finished. Or until the kids are older. Or until life slows down. Because life rarely slows down.

Instead, it keeps moving. Quietly. Beautifully. Unexpectedly.

And somewhere in the middle of all that ordinary living are the moments you'll wish you could step back into.

That's what I want to give you. A way back. A way to remember the little things that eventually become the big things.
